Carnival de Oruro 2011

Every year around February - March there is an International Carnival almost all over the world. In Oruro, we have a yearly carnival called Carnaval de Oruro which is basically for Socavon Virgen. Therefore Carnival de Oruro is one of the famous carnival in the world, because the carnival it self is not an ordinary carnival, it is like devotion for the Socavon Virgen. To dance in the carnival is like to have a promise to the Virgen, which is usually dancing for at least three years in a row.

The carnival were on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday some dances are wearing masks, and should not take off the mask until the dance finished.








The dances are amazing. Full of colors, beautiful costumes, and beautiful dancers.



Diablada dance


A falling angel, Gabriel is leading the devils to dance.

Bear was a symbol to the mining, because long time ago the miners used the bears to pull the carts with full of minerals.



The carnival is almost runs for 24 hours, from early morning to late at night.
